Free Starbucks??? Nah!

Have you heard that you can get a free Starbucks today if you vote? Maybe you can if you're in America. Or mabye my local barrista is on the naughty list. But supposedly if you vote in the election you can get a free cup of Starbucks brew today.

People over here are so in to the election. My local charity shop even has manicans dressed up as McCain, Palin, and Obama. But no Biden. Nobody over here knows who Biden is. Too bad they didn't hear about his conversation yesterday about a "girl-boy" ... what was that about ???

Where are we headed as a nation?

Last week I attended the First Minister's question time at the Scottish Parliament. The time provides an opportunity for members of the Parliament to ask the First Minister questions on public record. Here are some of the questions I heard:
*
1. I have a constituent with a mental health disease. The NHS (National Health Service of Scotland -- runs the socialized healthcare system) has put them on a waiting list of 4 years and 7 months before they will see a psychologist or psychiatrist. What are you going to do about that?
*
2. I have 86 constituents who lost their job last week because a company closed. What are you going to do about getting their jobs back for them and providing for them?
*
3. Just last week the Cardinal condemned embryo stem cell research, analogizing it to Nazi activity. Life sciences are the means to progress and one of our countries hallmarks. What do you have to say to the Cardinal?
*
Right now, the burden of responsibility in Great Britain provides a stark contrast to the government's responsibility and sphere of sovreignty in America.
*
C.S. Lewis once wrote that "Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely expressed for the good of its victims may be one of the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent busybodies." My response to Lewis? Timely.
